Fluctuating weather temperatures can cause algae blooms. Algae can cause a number of problems with water quality and flow. Impeding flow in drainage systems, blocking pumps and filters, interfere with navigation, fishing and other forms of recreation and in some instances creates a health hazard to humans, livestock and wildlife.
The need to control algae is therefore increasing for environmental, recreational and public health reasons. Adding barley straw to water has been tested in a wide range of situations and in many countries throughout the world. It has proved to be very successful in most situations with no known undesirable side-effects. It offers a cheap, environmentally friendly way of controlling algae in water bodies ranging in size from garden ponds to large reservoirs, streams, rivers and lakes.
Use with our Netting Funnels (sold separately) to stuff loose barley straw into the netting tube, cut to length and knot. Creating a barley straw boom to remove algae from lakes and ponds.
